Holland to Spain, Cillessen is here to play
After a promising start to his career in the Netherlands, Cillessen encountered difficulties when he moved to Barcelona. However, he found success at Valencia following his departure from Camp Nou. With over 50 international caps and involvement in prestigious tournaments, he has established himself as a seasoned international player. Having also played for N.E.C in the Netherlands, Cillessen is now part of another La Liga side, Las Palmas.
Onto his gloves, the relatively new brand of RWLK are the provider for Cillessen. The brand was founded by former PSV goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus, with the brand just launching in the UK. The gloves Cillessen has been wearing is the new Metro range, but he has worn a modified version of the Picasso range in the recent past.
Cillessen opts to have a customised thumb on his gloves, which does not feature the latex on the backhand that the retail model does, this is similar to his gloves when he was at Adidas. The remainder of the thumb is identical to the retail model, with the latex wrapping around the thumb just like the standard Picasso model.
The two gloves feature quite different backhands, with the Picasso range featuring a predominantly latex backhand whilst the Metro range features latex only on the fingers, similar to that of the Puma Future SMU of Ederson Moraes. Cillessen's gloves feature the same backhand as the retail models, both in a striking white with Orange accents, though he has worn a black edition as well as a pink version for Cancer awareness.
Featuring a hybrid cut, the Cillessen SMU is a snug fitting glove, featuring a 4mm thick Contact latex palm and a modified version of an Expanse Cut, however on his new Metro edition the gloves feature finger tip wraps, similar to the old Adidas Fingertip cut. This cut is brilliant for surface area for handling but also features a snug fit, giving him an ideal balance between the two. The hybrid cut of these gloves is similar to our Expans3 gloves, which you can find on our website.
Cillessen has also used a Roll Finger hybrid in recent years, a cut designed to maximise surface area. The two cuts he has employed offer a similar sensation, making it easy to transition between them seamlessly.
To finish off these amazing SMU's, Cillessen has the retail latex strap with the paint splatter effect, this is completed with his full name ("Jasper Cillessen") featuring in a script like font, which adds a subtle finish touch to these gloves. The strap also features a rubber pull tab which makes unlatching the strap easier as well as helping to remove the risk of damaging the latex when unwrapping the strap.
